Margery Marcus, Ed.D., an award-winning English teacher, retired from Broward County Public Schools after a long and successful career, both as a district-level administrator and as a teacher. She has taught English at every grade level from middle school through graduate school, currently focusing on lecturing to adult audiences. Her career has been guided by a deep love of learning and a passion for literature ignited when she read the very first page of “Charlotte’s Web” as a child. Her enthusiasm for sharing great stories told by great writers motivates her to bring literature to life for her audiences. Professor Marcus holds a B.A. in English and a master’s and doctorate in Education.

Coffee & Conversation: Books That Touched Our Lives

Calling all book lovers for a conversation about books we fondly remember. “Great” literature (The Bible, Don Quixote, Hamlet) aside, what books changed your perspective, gave you unexpected insights, delivered an “aha” moment, or just spoke volumes? Join Dr. Margery Marcus for a conversation about those special books that touched YOU. Dr. Marcus will discuss her choices which include the Romantic potboiler Mistress of Mellyn by Victoria Holt, The Women’s Room by Marilyn French, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, and John Irving’s A Prayer for Owen Meany. Bring the names of your favorite titles to share with the audience and leave with a list of books to add to your bookshelf.

This small discussion class is to introduce prospective members to OLLI Jupiter.

Current members can register for the class, IF registering with a new prospective member that has not previously attended OLLI lectures and/ or courses. Current members are limited to registering for one Coffee & Conversation per semester.
