Science
Dr. Stamper is a biology instructor at the Wilkes Honors College in Jupiter. She received her PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2014. Before teaching at FAU she spent 5 years doing postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge in England. Her research has focused on the areas of genetics, genomics, genetic recombination, gene regulation, and genome evolution. She has received competitive fellowships, including the Department of Defense graduate research fellowship and the Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship. Dr. Stamper now enjoys sharing her knowledge of biology with her students at FAU and with the wider community.
Human Genetic Diversity and Personalized Genomics
What can our DNA tell us about ourselves? In this lecture, participants will get a brief overview of how DNA encodes genetic information, and how changes in the DNA sequence make each of us genetically unique. We will discuss how genetically similar and different people are from each other. Finally, we will explore how analyzing the DNA sequence of our own genomes (personalized genomics) can give us information about our ancestry, as well as our predisposition to various diseases.
Register Early! There is a $5 charge for registering on the day of a one-time lecture or event.
