Walid Phares, Ph.D.


Political Science

Walid Phares, Ph.D., an expert on geopolitics, served as President Donald Trump’s Foreign Policy advisor during the 2016 Presidential Campaign and was national security advisor to Presidential candidate Mitt Romney (2011–2012). He was an academic advisor for the U.S. House of Representatives Caucus on Terrorism (2007–2013) and has been the Co-Secretary General of the Transatlantic Parliamentary Group (2009–2018). He served as MSNBC’s Terrorism Analyst (2003–2006) and has been Fox News’ Foreign Policy expert since 2007. He appears on major international and Arab media.

Professor Phares taught at FIU in Miami (1991–1993) and was a professor at the Department of Political Science at Florida Atlantic University (1993–2004). He taught at the National Defense University (2006–2012), then at BAU University in D.C. (2013–2016) and served as its Provost, then Vice President (2015–2017). He founded the Florida Society for Middle East Studies in 1994 and served as an advisor to Human Rights NGOs since 1992. He authored 14 books and appears on world media.

Professor Phares briefs members of Congress and the European Parliament, as well as national security agencies including the DIA, FBI and NSA. His books, “Future Jihad” (2005), “The War of Ideas” (2007), “The Coming Revolution” (2010) and “The Lost Spring” (2014), have predicted major evolutions of threats and social uprisings in the greater Middle East.

U.S. Foreign Policy and Major Middle East Conflicts in 2019

The lecture will cover major principles of the U.S. Administration in Foreign Policy regarding the various geopolitical challenges facing the U.S. worldwide. It will focus on the military and political expansion of Iran in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen and the new role of Hezbollah in the region and beyond.

The lecture will analyze U.S. policies regarding four ongoing wars in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen and the campaign against ISIS and Terrorism in Afghanistan. The presentation will explore the current U.S. options and possible alternatives for the future.

The lecture will analyze the rise of the Arab Coalition, including the roles of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, U.A.E., Jordan and U.S.-Arab relations. It will explore Arab positions vis-à-vis Iran and the prospects for an Arab-Israeli Peace after the U.S. move of its embassy to Jerusalem.
